Book Review: The Arsenal Reports 2002/03 Vol.15

Last updated : 06 October 2003 By Brian Dawes
The pets can usually be relied upon to ruin at least one, while the kids always grab whatever comes to hand for their latest ‘Art Attack' project or cleaning muddy trainers. Collecting clippings is a tough task and after a year or so of cluttering up the living room they invariably end up in box in the loft along with your family's collection of old 45's, the redundant Amstrad computer, some Scalextric track, four tons of Lego, the unwanted coffee table your Gran gave you, a few offcuts of carpet and an unused spare roll of kitchen wallpaper.

The solution then is clearly not to bother, I find it far easier just to wait till the start of any new season when I can then pick up this fine collection of press cuttings in one the handy volume. This latest edition comprises seventy-six pages in a A4 magazine style format, principally in black and white but with colour front and back covers. Essentially it's a book of newspaper clippings which have been thoughtfully collected and collated to produce a memorable record of the seasons highs, lows and headlines. So now you can once again relive our most recent Cup winning season. It covers every match together with lots of additional background articles, which act as a reflection of what was going on off the pitch as well as on it. The ‘red tops' and self styled ‘quality press' all get a look in here and the total package gives you the players, the pictures, the passion, the play, the plot and all the principle stories doing the rounds in 2002-3.

Any of these headlines ring a bell? Sweet talker Gilberto has golden touch, Henry silences the hate mob, Kanu ko'd, It's Hi-ho Silva and away, Adams the next chapter, Wiltord double as Arsenal run riot against West Brom, Red card for Vieira fails to halt Arsenal, Ljungberg fires Gunners assault, Irresistible Arsenal, Arsenal out of this world, Pires close to Arsenal return, Rooney hits thunderbolt to end Arsenal's run, Arsenal forced to taste failure, Keeper David is driven Brazil nuts as Gunners crash again, Wenger keeps his cool as kids are grounded, Henry the hypnotic puts Spurs in trance, King Henry the fifth, Arsenal fluff their lines, Calamity Kasey, Fall-guy Jeffers, The best I've ever seen, Bad day at the office, Sucker punch, All guns blazing, Arsenal by a knockout, Gunners or goners?, Wenger in bubbly mood, Arsenal run into Double trouble, No shame but a bitter European lesson, Wenger's strength test, Double is no trouble, Toure error costs Arsenal, Seaman tops Poll, End of a dream? Diamond geezer who won't give up on Grove, You've no Sol, Bolton derail the Wenger bandwagon, I lost half my army, I won't sell my stars, Wenger boys shake off blues, Quit now Seaman, please…. Still No.1, Gunners rescue by sweet FA Cup, Stylish henry Has Southampton chasing shadows, Hooray Henry.

Brings back all sorts of memories doesn't it? Well that's the idea and at £5.95 I'd say it's an excellent way to do it.
