Book Review: The Official Arsenal Quiz Book

Last updated : 09 October 2002 By Brian Dawes

You can either use it up the Pub to outwit your mates with some irritatingly difficult pint-winning posers. Or you could quite happily test your own knowledge in a comfy armchair on any night you'd rather not watch the Scum or Manure feature on Sky TV. Either way I defy anyone to get all the answers correct without some serious cheating.

Cheating is always a temptation with a title like this but the Answers don't run sequentially so it means you're not going to ‘accidentally on purpose' get to see the next batch of questions as you check your last lot of answers. The following five questions are a taster.

FA Cup Final 1971 section
What record did Eddie Kelly achieve when he scored our equaliser?

Author, Author section
Who wrote ‘Forward Arsenal'?

FA Cup Semi Finals section
Prior to 2001-2 at which ground have Arsenal played most of their Semi Finals?

Birthplaces section
Where was Stevie Bould born?

And here's an easier one on Famous Supporters – the clue is: "Third in line for the throne"

I must admit this is not normally the sort of Arsenal title I go for but at only £4.99 it should pay for itself in bets up the Pub within the first week. But a word of warning a car-load of Gooners road tested the book on our way to the game at Leeds and discovered that not all the answers had been updated to 2002. Also it contains some typographical errors in the answers section that are confusing. Worse yet, there were one or two answers at least that were found to be incorrect. Anelka wasn't one of Arsene's first signings. I could have sworn Arsenal were founded at a pub called the Royal Oak and not the Prince of Wales. Bryan Jones didn't play for Arsenal it was Bryn Jones. In fact Bryan Jones didn't even play for the Rolling Stones, that was Brian Jones.
