An evening with Alan Smith & Michael Thomas

Last updated : 25 May 2004 By Chris Parry
Arsenal needed to win by two clear goals at the home of the reigning champions to clinch the title on the last day of the season. With the seconds ticking away, Alan Smith's solitary goal looked like given the Gunners a worthy victory, but not enough to snatch the title. However midfield maestro Michael Thomas made one last lung-bursting run through the midfield, lifting the ball over Grobelaar into the Liverpool net. With Liverpool barely having time to kick off again, the title was North London bound for the first time in 18 years and the Merseyside monopoly was over.

On Thursday 27 May (15 years and one day later), Tom Watt hosts 'an Evening with Alan Smith and Michael Thomas' reliving one of the greatest matches in Arsenal's history. They will be looking back at the season as a whole as well as the match, reliving every moment right up until that last, memorable kick.

As with previous events, it's at the Union Stage, Compton Avenue, Islington and we kick off at 7:45pm.
