Arsenal 2 Fenerbahce 0: Player Ratings

ramseyThere were a few hiccups along the way, but Szczesny made some good saves to keep Fenerbahce, who were a little more lively tonight, at bay.

The game did have its cost, though. Injuries to Lukas Podolski, Aaron Ramsey, and a few more bruises for Jack Wilshere will leave the team a little vulnerable for this weekend’s clash with Spurs.

Szczesny 8.  Did well early to stop Meireles, made a key stop on Emenike, and made several other good stops. His flapping on one of the corners is a big concern as is his tendency to come out too far in the box to chase dubious balls. Luckily the ref saw Emenike dive.

Jenkinson 7. Should have scored in extra time but the goalie was in the right place. Jenkinson had his pocket picked a couple of times, one of which led to one of Fenerbahce’s best chances. I could see Wilshere was frustrated with him for not making quick passes forward.

Monreal 6.  A decent outing for Monreal, although he did give the ball away several times.

Sagna 7.  Had his hands full at times, but always made the key interventions needed. Excellent in the air.

Mertesacker 7.  His experience makes up for his lack of pace and he also made the key plays when he needed.

Ramsey  9.  Co-man of the match for me. Two goals, another strong game … this man’s on fire. Unfortunately, he may have injured his groin.

Wilshere 8.  Great effort from Jack. When people are fouling him, you know he’s being effective. I hope he can play on the weekend.

Cazorla 9.  My other co-man of the match. Everything good offensively tonight seemed to involve him. His control, ability to turn … sensational. His form is getting better and better.

Walcott 7. Unlucky not to score off the free kick. He looked dangerous the entire night, even though things didn’t come off for him.

Giroud 6.  His scoring streak ends at three, but he had his chances, good chances that he squandered.

Podolski  6.  Was playing well until he did in his hamstring early in the second half.

Substitutes

Gibbs  7.  A solid outing for Gibbs off the bench. It’s an indication of the lack of depth that a fullback replaces a forward.

Sanogo 6.  Did okay. Nothing spectacular for the youngster on his home debut.

Miyaichi  6.  Put in a good cross to Jenkinson, but was largely quiet in his first outing at the Emirates in quite a while.
