Arsenal set to swoop for European goal-machine

Arsenal have been on alert for additional firepower for sometime with concerns over an over-reliance on Olivier Giroud

The 29-year-old French striker is having a good season for the Gunners after a rocky start and complaints over missed opportunities at International level.

Reports today suggest that Arsenal are setting their sights on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who is scoring for fun at the moment in Germany with a record this season of 27 goals from 27 appearances in all competitions and an incredible 18 from 17 in the league.

Arsenal have a great opportunity this season of lifting the Premier League title for the first time since the 'Invincibles' 03-04 season and a golden opportunity would no doubt be greatly supported with the arrival of an in-form striker.

The reports seem to have reached fever-pitch after the player missed training on Wednesday although the reason for this was an engagement in Nigeria for an award with the blessing of Dortmund rather than joining them for warm weather training in Dubai.

The Gabonese international is known for his speed and acceleration and is able to play on the wings or as a centre-forward with his pace being such that he has on a number of occasions been wrongly ruled offside.

The report on the Mail Online website suggests that Dortmund 'insiders' suggest they could part with their striker but only if Arsenal were to significantly increase their offer to the £60m mark.
