Arsenal v AC Milan - Player Ratings

Last updated : 22 February 2008 By Luis Anaconda

Despite the missed chances, there were many positives to take from a fine performance in which some of Milan's "greats" were made to look ordinary. Just one goal may be enough over there - a few more would do nicely though lads…

Jens Lehmann - 7 - Underworked but his early save was both excellent and vital. His throw to Ade from the resulting cross was also fine work. A calm (honestly) presence throughout and should now keep his place.

Bacary Sagna - 8 - An exceptional performance in any circumstances.

Kolo Toure - n/a - At least the injury came in making a fine block.

William Gallas - 8 - Looked every inch the world-class player we know he is.

Gael Clichy - 7 - Mr Consistency - careful with those throws across goal, though, Gael.

Emmanuel Eboue - 6 - How do solve a problem like Eboue, how do you tell a penalty from a dive? All the components of a fine winger except perhaps a brain. Promise and petulance in equal measure.

Mathieu Flamini - 9 - A reader, Mr O from Frimley, writes: "Astonishing that Flamini managed to cover as much ground as usual with both Kaka and Pirlo in his back pockets." Sign that contract please, Matty.

Cesc Fabregas - 8 - Eased his way in to the game, and gradually took over to run the show for long periods.

Eduardo da Silva - 6 - Out of position but still looked a threat and provided support for his full back. A finisher of his ability really should have been on the scoresheet with the chances he had.

Alexander Hleb - 8 - Interchanged with Cesc and ended on the left but always a threat.

Emmanuel Adebayor - 7 - It's fair to give him stick for missing a chance but to criticise his overall performance is ludicrous. Despite playing up front on his own he was a handful all night for a world-class defence. Still can't believe he missed…

Substitutes:

Philippe Senderos - 8 - Immense, superb, solid, exceptional. Made a lot of people eat their words.

Nicklas Bendtner - 7 - I would have preferred Eduardo to be moved up front when we switched to a 4-4-2 but Bendtner proved a threat.

Theo Walcott - n/a - A cameo of real promise. He is going to get a few chances over the coming weeks - let's hope he builds on this.
