Arsenal v Aston Villa - Player Ratings

Last updated : 02 April 2006 By Mike Bohndiek

We started well, bagging two goals before the mid point of the first half. Villa offered little resistance, which led to the inevitable O'Leary out chants from Villa fans. A superb third by Henry shortly after the break ended the game as a contest and we from there on in it was a case of how many, with the answer turning out to be 5, with Van Persie coming off of the bench to score, and Diaby getting his first for the club.

This great team effort was made all the sweeter by the news that both Bolton and Spurs had lost, blowing the race for fourth place wide open.

Jens Lehmann (8) Two stunning saves ensured we kept a clean sheet, despite our own defenders best efforts to score an own goal!

Mathieu Flamini (7) Hard in the challenge from start to finish.

Kolo Toure (8) One sublime tackle and numerous other blocks makes this an easy 8.

Philippe Senderos (7) He just keeps getting stronger and stronger.

Emanuel Eboue (7) Played well, but was taken off injured.

Robert Pires (7) Another good game, and yet again he put his foot in, wonders will never cease!

Cesc Fabregas (N/A) A good start to the game, but he was taken off worryingly early due to injury.

Gilberto (7) It is well known that I am not his greatest fan but today I must admit he played very well today.

Jose Reyes (7) His forward movement caused Villa problems throughout.

Thierry Henry (7) Scored two great goals and then got a rest before Wednesday; perfect!

Emmanuel Adebayour (7) His best game for the club, capped with a goal.

Subs:

Abou Diaby (7) He was always in control and bagged his first for the club.

Robin Van Persie (6) A fine goal, and a good display.

Johan Djourou (6) Filled in well at right back.
