Arsenal v Aston Villa - Player ratings

Last updated : 17 August 2013 By Michael Jung

Koscielny’s red card suspension exposes Arsenal’s lack of cover and they need to find someone before next week’s clash with Fulham.

Szczesny  5.  Not really at fault for the first goal, in fact he did well to save the penalty. Almost got caught out of goal later when he lazily jogged back to cover the goal.

Sagna 6.  Had a decent game, especially considering he had to play left back for most of the game. Had a nasty fall late in the game and I hope he didn’t suffer a concussion as that has implications for midweek.

Gibbs 6.  Was having a good game until he suffered a nasty gash. Hopefully will be ready for midweek.

Koscielny 5.  Poor challenge against Agbonlahor for lead up to Villa’s first goal. Was unluckily booked after the second penalty was unjustly awarded, but his last challenge was poor, although there was no contact.

Mertesacker 6.  Decent game from Per, although he backed off and allowed Delph to fire a shot on goal in the second half.

Ramsey  6.  A decent match from Ramsey, although I felt he and Wilshere were exposed on the lead up to Villa’s first goal.

Wilshere 6.  A feisty performance from Jack. I was worried he’d be sent off, but he kept his head. Wasn’t able to carve the Villa defence open.

Rosicky 8.  Arsenal’s best player on the field, but his lack of a killer shot foiled our two best moves of the second half. Always looked dangerous and had the desire to move us forward.

Walcott  5.  Poor game from Theo. Too many times he squandered good opportunities.

Giroud 6.  Nice finish early, nice one-two with Rosicky, but wasn’t able to impose himself.

Oxlade-Chamberlain 7.  Nice set up for the first goal, but Alex seems to have picked up an injury.

Subs.

Jenkinson  6.  Good game from Carl, but a couple of his crosses could have been a little better.

Cazorla  7.  One great chance, but Guzan saved it. Santi wasn’t able to have the impact I’d hoped he would.

Podolski .  No time to have an impact on the game.
