Arsenal v Sparta Prague - Player Ratings

They even let him score the first goal in one of the least competitive matches at the Emirates in its long history. Anyway it was mission accomplished and there were promises glimpses of the talent of Eduardo and young Theo and yet another strike from Cesc.

Manuel Almunia - 6 - Not much to do and unable to impress the boss or the fans. I can't help but think of Les Sealey replacing Jim Leighton as the previous most unlikely goalkeeping swap. United did end up with Schmeichel though…

Justin Hoyte - 6 - Showed an aptitude for Gael-like interceptions but must lose the lapses in concentration and possibly the English accent.

Kolo Toure - 7 - One quality rant at his troops and some impressive last-ditch defending when needed.

Phillipe Senderos - 6 - Must have been bored as he galloped forward with some aplomb on several occasions.

Gael Clichy - 5 - Went to sleep a couple of times and must learn there are moments when his pace will not save him - not many though.

Theo Walcott - 7 - Explosive start, showing his pace and using the ball intelligently. Faded but then he was kept up well past his bedtime.

Abou Diaby - 7 - A wonderful addition to the team when you're playing the Arsenal on TV drinking game. Drink two fingers every time the words Diaby and new Vieira are used within the same sentence. After ten minutes you'll be as confused as Abou leaves opponents with his dribbling though in the morning you'll feel you've been hit by one of his reckless tackles.

Gilberto Silva - 7 - Mr Reliable was, well, reliable.

Tomas Rosicky - 7 - Seemed almost apologetic to have scored against his old club but was a threat throughout.

Robin van Persie - 7 - It was a 6 performance to be honest but one moment of brilliance at the beginning of the second half when he left an opponent bamboozled before hitting a sumptuous crossfield ball was worth an extra mark on its own.

Eduardo Da Silva - 8 - Must be a nightmare to play against, lively and surprisingly strong for a little man. Will get better and better. Huge head though.

Substitutes

Cesc Fabregas - 7 - Why in the name of Perry Groves was he allowed on the pitch when we were cruising. Of course he was utterly class when he came on.

Denilson - 6 - Fine cross for Eduardo's goal.

Emmanuel Adebayor - 7 - Enjoyed himself - which is nice.
