Arsenals must have plans for this January

With just a defeat in the premier league and a draw against Tottenham last week, Arsene Wenger has brought a best possible hope of Premier League silverware once again after 9 years at the Emirates. With Mesut Ozil showing his creativity right after he came from the Spanish giants Real Madrid, the German has already created 4 assists for the club in the league. Oliver Giroud is off to a great start being joint top scorer in the league despite his poor performance last season and Aaron Ramsey has never put a wrong foot this season to goal.

Optimism seems to be at the acme for the gunners to have the fans dream of another Premier League victory after their unbeaten 2003-04 season. Although the team seems to enjoy good league position till now, Arsenal are very prone to defensive errors that has made them concede most amount of goals from their defensive mistakes.

With players like Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta, Tomos Rosicky, Mesut Ozil, Flamini, Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla, Alex Oxalade Chamberlain, and Aaron Ramsey in the midfield position, Arsenal seem to be very much in control. But where striking and defensive roles is where the Arsenal team lack their grip in.

With Lukas Podolski being injury prone and Oliver Giroud at not having that flexibility, versatility and mobility required at upfront of the strong midfield alongside a poor defense is where the problem lies for the Emirates team. Per Mertasacker is too slow for fast paced team like Arsenal while Laurent Koscielny gives away a lot of chances for free kicks and penalties. However, Kieran Gibbs and Bacary Sagna seem to hold good position for the team alongside Carl Jenkinson and Nacho Monreal, the team still needs to make some good signings in the January transfer period as Sagna is said to leave soon while Vermalean is affected with frequent injury problems.

The following three signings can help gunners to keep hold of their Premier League position for season long:

1. Lars Bender

The German midfielder who plays for Bayern Leverkusen was targeted by Arsenal over the summer. A handsome bid of around ?25m can rightly tempt Leverkusen for the class midfielder. This all-round midfield player can help Arsenal reinforce defensive midfield role together with Mathieu Flamini who joined the club on a free transfer this summer. With Alex Song gone, Bender can possibly fill the position on a long term for Arsene Wenger side. Manchester United is also supposed to provide a tough fight for Arsenal in signing the 24-year old midfield maestro.

2. Demba Ba

The Senegalese striker Demba Ba, a misfit at Chelsea FC is rumored to be approached by Arsenal this January. The 28-year old striker, who was about to move for Arsenal on loan on the deadline day of the summer transfer was blocked by Jose Mourinho after Mesut Ozil signed for the Wenger that he believed made them the title contenders. With Demba Ba being a prolific finisher in the league itself but fighting for regular playing time at Chelsea, Arsenal can surely get this man ahead of the creative midfield that they possess for cheap either in loan or a low fee transfer than rumored targets Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain.

3. Marco Reus

This versatile attacker from Borussia Dortmund could also make a move to Arsenal this January. With the likes of Manchester City alongside, the Gunners have been monitoring on this highly talented German international to fill in the striking options at the club. Reus can be a bit expensive but Arsenal will surely benefit from the intelligence, creativity, finishing and the effect that the player has from different playing positions. Although Reus is not out-and-out strikers naturally, he is able to play in the flanks or behind the main striker that would greatly benefit Arsene Wenger's side by not relying only on Oliver Giroud for goals upfront.
