Champions League qualification- The permutations...

Last updated : 11 March 2003 By Chris Parry

However should things not go to plan, here is the lowdown on what we/the others have to do or not do in order to qualify:

If we win and Valencia win or draw we need a draw or win in Valencia or we need Ajax not to beat Roma.

If we draw and Ajax win, we need a draw or win next week

If we draw and Valencia draw, we need a draw or win to qualify

If we draw and Valencia win, we need to win if Ajax win the next week, to draw if Ajax draw next week and we will qualify if we lose and Ajax lose next week.

If we lose and Ajax win (this is the complicated one), it depends what we lost to Roma by to decide what we need to do....... read on

Lose by 1 goal or by 2-0 to Roma... Valencia win, we need to win to qualify as long as Ajax don't win (they got an away goal to us)

Same as above and Valencia draw, we need to get a score draw in Valencia if Roma and Ajax draw, a win and we qualify no matter what.

Same as above and Ajax beat Valencia.... we need to draw if Ajax and Roma draw, or a win if either side wins.

If we lose 3-1 to Roma then it gets very complicated and we prob' need to win in Valencia to have a good chance.

If we lose by 3 goals or 4-2 or higher tonight then we hope Valencia draw tonight, we would need to win the next week and hope Ajax get a draw at worst against Roma

Hope all this makes sense!
