Chelsea v Arsenal - Player Ratings

Last updated : 21 April 2005 By Mike Bohndiek
I think it is safe to say that both sides had a “draw at all costs” attitude going into this one. After a frantic opening few minutes, which saw Bobby hit the bar before putting a clear chance past the post, the game settled into a pattern of midfield passing and long ball tactics. Chelsea had some better chances in the second half as we faded away, but in the end coming away from there with a point is a satisfactory result.

Man of The Match – Patrick Vieira

Player Ratings

Jens Lehmann - 7 - Made one great save from Drogba in the first half. Other than that was relatively untroubled as Chelsea fired in tame shots.

Ashley Cole - 7 - Took no notice of the abuse from Chelsea fans, and just played his game. He kept Duff quiet all night, and got forward well in the early stages.

Kolo Toure - 7 - Another good game. It will be interesting to see who Sol will replace upon his return to the first team.

Philippe Senderos - 7.5 - Kept Drogba out of the game all night. He has been growing in confidence with every game and is looking like a fantastic player.

Lauren - 7 - Helped Cesc going forward and covered plenty of ground.

Robert Pires - 7 - Much better passing and vision. He was unlucky to see his powerful volley come back off the bar, but really should have done better when presented with a clear opportunity just minutes later.

Gilberto - 7 - He played a more attacking game than usual, and got into many good positions.

Patrick Vieira - 8 - Another classic display, which is a delight to say after his unpredictable performances this year.

Cesc Fabregas - 6.5 - Had a good first half where he got down the right wing and helped link the play. However, like many , he faded in the second half.

Jose Reyes - 6 - I'm starting to feel really sorry for him. He puts so much into games, but things just aren't working out for him at this point in time. I hope he gets a few goals soon to boost his confidence back up.

Dennis Bergkamp - 5 - He never got into the game and played some poor balls by his high standards.

Subs

Jeremie Aliadiere - N/A - Had too little time to get into a game which was already slowing down.
