Could Arsenal Be Premier League Title Favourites

Last updated : 07 June 2013 By DSG

The Gunners have long been hailed as how a club should be run in a financial sense. Completely debt free and consistently reining in profits. This is fantastic news for the investors of course but you get the sense the average fan would happily have swapped places with any of their top-four companions.

This summer, however, for the first time in years, Arsenal have flexed their financial muscle and signaled serious intent in the transfer market. Arsene Wneger has set his sights on a proven Premier League centre back in the form of Swansea?s Ashley Williams, his signature young Frenchman in Lyon?s Clement Grenier and the world class trio of Everton?s Marouane Fellaini, Brazilian shot-stopper Julio Cesar and of course, Wayne Rooney.

A squad consisting of those five players alongside the likes of Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski, Jack Wilshere and the ever-improving Theo Walcott would be a daunting prospect for any of the major heavyweights in the division.

Ivan Gazidis has recently spoken out in support of Arsene Wenger, who has plenty of experience in winning trophies, and confirmed that the transfer budget is there for the Frenchman to spend. With the right squad, Wenger has shown time and time again that he is capable of achieving great things.

2013/14 really could be the season that we see the return of the mighty Gunners at the top of the Premier League table, where their fans will feel they belong. There will of course be fierce competition in the shape of two Manchester clubs and a certain capital city rival all under new management and opening their own wallets, but Arsenal will feel that that will only make victory sweeter.
