Everton v Arsenal - Player Ratings

Tonight we can thank Phil Neville for his timely mouthing off about us not showing them respect when they fluked a 1 – 1 draw at our place recently and thus firing up the boys & James McFadden for telling Graham Poll what a wonderful referee he is!

This is some result against an experienced Everton side on their own patch & against a team who clearly had serious aspirations of going all the way in this competition.

I have a gut feeling that someone is going to take quite a pasting from us very soon & I would not rule out this happening on Sunday against the red half of Merseyside.

Almunia - 5 - Received a kick from Traore and was replaced at half time

Eboue - 6 - Good to have him back & the 90 minutes should see him fully tuned up for Liverpool on Sunday.

Senderos - 7 - Dealt with Everton's high ball admirably. Will be a vital member of the squad this season.

Djourou - 7 - Skilful & quick, decision making could be better at times but defended well.

Flamini - 7 - Excellent dogged display in midfield, his corner finding Adebayor for the winner.

Walcott - 6 - In & out performance hit a sweet volley over the bar early on & put in fine cross that should have lead to a goal.

Song Billong - 6 - The jury is still out I feel with this chap.

Denilson - 7 - Excellent performance, lovely touch & quickly adapting to the English game, couldn't have picked a tougher test but came through with flying colours, another masterstroke by Wenger.

Adebayor - 7 - Worked tirelessly & a handful for the Everton defence but also helped the team out defensively. Good downward header for the winner 5 minutes from time from Flamini's well executed corner. Should have scored earlier when heading straight at Howard from Walcott's teasing cross.

Traore - 6 - His first full start, main contribution was to kick Almunia in the face! Looks comfortable on the ball

Aliadiere - 6 - No goals tonight in his favourite competition, one strong run saw him hit the deck in the Everton area with strong penalty claims waved away by the thing from Tring. He should have scored late on but blazed over with only Howard to beat.

Poom - 6 - (46) Did well with some good saves but also spilled a late free kick which could have proved costly.

Randall - 5 - (70) Not enough time to show us anything & Denilson was a big act to follow.

Subs Not Used: Connolly, Ryan Garry, Perez.
