Kieran Tierney Backs Brilliant Unai Emery & Claims Players Must Take Responsibility

Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney has opened up on his relationship with under-fire manager Unai Emery, while also revealing that it is up to the players within the squad to perform in order to move past the current poor run of form.

Following the Gunners' 1-1 draw with Vitoria SC in the Europa League, the north London side have now let leads slip in their last four matches, with pressure firmly on Emery to improve fortunes on and off the pitch.

Most notably, Granit Xhaka gesticulated to Arsenal fans and muttered a number of expletives after he was booed off in the draw with Crystal Palace recently. He has since been stripped of the captaincy, and Emery was criticised for his handling of the situation, while the club's recent form hasn't helped his situation either. As a result, it has been reported that he may have only one month to save his job.

However, Tierney has defended the head coach, revealing how he has helped him to settle in and improve his game. The left-back said, as quoted by the Telegraph“It is up to us as players to correct it on the pitch. For me, he [Emery] has been brilliant since I have come in.

“Everybody in the changing room has belief in each other and the manager. He likes to keep the ball, pass the ball with a possession-type game and for me I am just learning and working on my technique with him. I am working on passing and crossing - everything in general.”

The 22-year-old went on to discuss why Arsenal have been conceding late goals recently, admitting that the team don't know what the problem is, but they are working to fix it.

“It is something we are going to need to work on as a team and on the training field as well," he said. "For me coming in it is hard, but it is something we are all going to work on 100% and we need to get out of our game. If we knew what it was we would fix the problem. But it is something that we will be looking to correct. It happens. Teams have bad spells, they go through bad spells."

The Scotland international has been left out of his country's squad for their upcoming matches, with Tierney conceding that he has felt fatigued, having only recently returned from injury.

The defender will use the international break to rest and recover, but he will first be looking to help his team and the manager get a positive result when they travel to face Leicester on Saturday.
