Retaining Theo Walcott - A Masterstroke

Last updated : 14 February 2013 By DSG

Will he, won?t he; with just over a year left on his contract,speculation surrounding Theo Walcott?s future continued.Few envisaged him signing a new long term contract. Throughout the span of discussions, his commitment to the club had been without question &intentions to stay with Arsenal were very evident.

?I?m an honest guy. I like to get on with my job. I?ve got to work on pre-season, I don?t want any distractions. Like I say my agent and the club will continue to talk and when there?s something to know I?ll get involved? - July 2012:

?It is important for me that something gets sorted out, because I enjoy playing for this club. I don?t think you can put a time frame on when it will be resolved though when both parties are sure, it will happen? - November 2012:

The 2012-13 season has by far been Walcott?s best in Arsenal colours. Not only has he broken his own scoring record (18 Goals & 8 Assist) but also shown vast improvements in his overall game. This achievement becomes even more spectacular with a-third of the season yet to be played. With game time under his belt, Walcott?s maturity on and off the field has taken long strides and in a recent interview he said;

?We?re very confident [of finishing in the top four]. We can battle through any sort of situation. The teams around us are winning as well, but we?ve just got to make sure we look after ourselves and try to win as often as we can?

Throughout his Arsenal Career Walcott has always been the consummate professional. His performances this season have been outstanding and with age by his side there is no reason why he cannot become a world beater.
