'Silly Season' off to a slow start, but Owen rumours persist

Most of the speculation this week has centred around Stuttgart's Alexander Hleb, whose agent is pulling the usual stunt of 'talking up' a move for his client - "Alexander would love to play in the UK" etc. etc. - Zzzzzzz...

As usual though, the silence from Arsenal is deafening, but then we've come to expect nothing more. Some clubs (particularly those with Managers and Chairmen who like the sound of their own voices) seem to conduct their transfer business via the tabloids, but at Highbury any such business is always shrouded in secrecy.

Whilst we appreciate Arsenal's dignified approach at certain times - For example the ongoing 'Colegate' saga - Their 'cloak and dagger' transfer policy can leave the fans frustrated.

There is also continued speculation as to the future of Michael Owen. Although he has stated that he's happy to stay in Madrid, there is a feeling that a return to the Premiership might appeal if the offer was right.

I suspect that should Arsenal enter into negotiations with Senor Perez, the Spaniard would be looking to take a player in part exchange. Depending upon the progress with the Hleb deal, that player could well be Freddie Ljungberg. The Swede has expressed his concern at the apparent lack of conviction shown by the club when it comes to strengthening the team with proven quality players, and might be up for a change of club.

As usual it's a case of 'Watch this space'
