Sturridge injury opens door to Arsenal Suarez January bid

The news that Liverpool's top goal scorer could be out for 8 weeks may well have had something to do with Liverpool's capitulation against Hull over the weekend, but not just because of his own absence. Liverpool have 3 tough away games ahead in December, to Tottenham, Manchester City, and Chelsea, (not to mention Cardiff, Norwich and West Ham at home), all well before Sturridge is due to return, and with no real cover, this leaves Suarez to take the brunt of the responsibility. Suarez however, must see this lack of cover as a mixture of bad management by Brendan Rodgers, and more importantly, as a serious impact in Liverpool's title and trophy ambitions this year.

Already 7 points behind Arsenal, they have lost their fantastic start's momentum somewhat, to leave them trailing 4 points behind Chelsea, and 2 behind Man City, and with Manchester United on a 12 games in all competitions unbeaten run, positioned only 2 points beneath them, even Champions League places are looking likely to disappear. Suarez wants to win things, and he wants to be competing against the best players in the world. By the time Liverpool regain Sturridge, it may be that the gap is too far to be breached. Lose against Chelsea and Man City in-between then and the task becomes even harder.

Suarez is world class, and has not played in Europe this season, (thus making him available for Champions League games), and can see a club who have shown interest before, in need of a striker for cover and to play alongside Giroud. Another year without Champions League football, even for a club who have shown him so much loyalty, may be too much for the Uruguayan to expect to be content with. And Arsenal, well they know they're maybe only 1 player away from domination in a league where teams are simply not winning the games they're expected to.

Would Rodgers sanction the sale? Arsenal have the cash to spend, and something catastrophic would have to happen before January for them to not be at the top or thereabouts come the transfer window opening. Make Liverpool an offer they cannot refuse, and Luis could easily find himself in the red of Arsenal for the Anfield game in February playing against his old team-mates.
