Vieira, who played 66 games last season, and appeared in his 42nd successive international in France's 2-1 win in Cyprus last weekend, is to ask Gunners' boss Arsene Wenger to rest him, claiming his performances are being affected because he is so tired.

Vieira told l'Equipe magazine: "I'm not tired, I'm burned out. This time I really need a breather.

"I can hardly stand. My back aches, my legs hurt, it hurts all over."

Vieira said: "I'm going to see Arsene. He must give me time off to relax.

"I don't know how or when, but it must come quickly because the Champions League is coming and there are soon two tiring games in succession for France."

Vieira feels his form at the start of this season has been patchy.

"I do feel a bit unnerved by my form," he admitted.

"I know pretty well that I'm not good right now. I can see my performances are up and down."
