Rocastle Remembered - A record for Christmas!

Last updated : 29 December 2003 By Dr. Headgear
I shouldn't have taken my eye off the ball though, because on the 22nd of December the team managed to put in a record day - breaking the 140 days of CPU time barrier for the first time! We contributed 140 days, 10 hours, 19 minutes and 38 seconds of computer processing time in just 24 hours, a fantastic contribution. Thtas over a days more CPU time than our previous record. The day's efforts also came close to netting a points record for us - passing the 50,000 points mark for only the second time, just 125 points short of the record of 50,169 we set (which I may have neglected to report...) one week previously.

The Christmas period has seen our average contribution drop (as is to be expected when people turn off their work PCs and go home for the holidays) from around 120 days CPU time per day to somewhere in the mid 90s. For three days (25th, 26th, 27th December) we dropped below 100 days CPU time per day, for the first time in over a month. The drop wasn't anywhere near as severe as I'd been expecting though - either some of you were sneaking off to work during your Christmas lunches or you've all got the cancer research program installed at home as well.

To bring some more Christmas cheer I can also report that the team has passed several milestones recently. We have now contributed more thn 130 years of processing time to the project, and earnt more than 15 million points. We are ranked in the top 100 for both CPU time and points (out of some 37,000 teams). We are continuing to inch up the rankings, our current daily averages should put us somewhere in the top 50. And projected totals put us turning in our 100,000th result in about a month and a half.

So thanks to all involved, keep up the good work, and Happy New Year to you all!
