1860 Munich 1 Arsenal 3: A reasonable workout

Sol for example failed to get off the ground for their header which came from a brilliant cross from the right although to be fair he did make a couple of crunching tackles.

I thought Lauren continued to improve in the right back slot all last season. Not surprising with Pat Rice on the staff. Oleg did well towards the end of last season (in both full back positions) and young Volz has been elevated to the first team squad. Remember also that we are comparing L12's defensive capabilities to those of the vastly underrated Dixon who was brilliant in the tackle, great at jockeying his man and superb when covering our central defenders not to mention being brilliant at winding up prats like Ginola and Le Saux to name but two. Lauren on the other hand is the dogs proverbials on the ball and going forward.

Silva is the business, powerful in the tackle, great at passing, finds space well, looks to get forward with fast attacking runs and packs a mean shot. He's gonna be a big favourite very quickly. He also plays the holding role really well which should enable Pat to get forward much more often. I predict more goals for PV4 this season.

Pascal Cygan is big but doesn't as yet punch his weight. Shearer would give him a total battering right now. He has a very tasty left foot but his positional sense was severely lacking at times especially when he went walkabout more often than not to the left back spot. Keown is by far the best defender we have with respect to positional sense right now.

Kolo Toure has the power of a runaway train and might make an impact this season.

Theirry and Dennis were hot. Sylvain took up some brilliant positions but was not given the ball when he should have been set up for tap ins.

Edu is class and now looks totally at home in the first team. I think he will be even better this season than last.

Big Dave's ponytail is even longer. Carini looks like he'll take charge at the back. Very disappointing to see that no-one congratulated him on a fine save - we will miss Tone's encouragement and cajoling. Make him feel at home lads even if it is for just one year.

Ashley Cole looked pretty fit considering his minimal training to date. Matty replaced him late on. Kanu also came on late in the game.

Aliadiere had an outrageous shot (the one where TH14 tucked away the rebound off the post) but the French youngster still needs to add a bit of muscle. He's quick though - very quick.

Pat is the captain now and he needs to start acting like one because he's not a natural. Being a brilliant and powerful player is not always enough. TA6 always went up to the ref at the end of every game and thanked him no matter how crap. It's what captains do at a Club with class. Give him the word Arsene.

The TV camera work and studio editing were crap - on a par with the average holiday video by your Uncle Ernie after six pints. Still it was nice to get the
chance to see the new kit used in action. Just a shame no-one can buy it yet because Nike are such a bunch of Bankers (or something similar). Now that Nike have landed Manure it would seem that everyone else can go and pluck themselves.

Steven Carr is a rumour that just won't go away but I suspect that the price rather than his fitness will be the reason that he doesn't make the trip down to the superior end of Seven Sisters Road. Shame - because after missing out on the World Cup he'll be itching to show his worth.
