We don't need Villa

Podolski, Giroud and Walcott are sharing the goals around at the moment, and what's stopping them getting more is the supply. Not since the days of Pires and Ljungberg have the goalscoring duties been spread around in this way.

What we need is a defence capable of keeping clean sheets, then maybe our midfielders could spend a little more time providing goalscoring opportunities for our strikers. As it stands they're clearly nervous playing in front of a leaky defence which hampers their creativity.

I'd take Diame ahead of Villa anytime - a proven Premiership player who'll add a little steel to the midfield and protect the back four.

There seems to be no talk of us signing a central defender which disappoints me. On paper we have the defence to cope but in reality they don't play together as a unit, and show frequent signs of weakness. A coaching issue? - maybe, but it doesn't help us win games.

It's quite possible that we'll sign nobody of course, but what pressure will that put on Wenger to deliver? - no more than usual I suspect. He'll continue to do his own thing and ignore the cries of certain sections of our fans.

Wait and see.
