Fans call for early close to Transfer Window

Last updated : 04 September 2013 By DSG

The transfer window shut last night with Mesut Ozil?s signing for Arsenal and Maroune Fellaini?s short trip down the M62 to sign for Manchester United. However despite all the excitement of the evening, one thing has become clear. While the fans may love the drama of the window closing, they firmly believe that it closes too late.

A survey carried out by Digital Sports Group in the run up to the close of the 2013 summer window showed an overwhelming majority in favour of shutting the window before the new season begins. The independent poll was conducted across DSG?s network of sites including footymad.net, football.co.uk and sport.co.uk and resulted in a three to one majority in favour of early closure.

DSG?s Managing Director Simon Boynton said ?we wanted to give the fans a very simple ?yes or no? choice and they responded in their droves. Well over 1,000 hardcore football fans answered the question and 75% wanted all business completed before a ball was kicked in anger?.

The survey reflects the opinion of some of the major players in the game today. Premier League managers Arsene Wenger, Roberto Martinez and Alan Pardew have all expressed the opinion that there should be no wheeling and dealing after the big kick off. It wouldn?t be easy to get even the English divisions in line, let alone those on the continent. However just because it?s not easy doesn?t mean it won?t happen and now the fans have spoken perhaps the powers that be may start to listen.
