Sunderland v Arsenal - Player Ratings

Last updated : 02 May 2006 By Mike Bohndiek

Having created close to nothing in the opening period, we stole ahead when Collins, under pressure from Diaby, put through his own net. Shortly after, Cesc was released by Henry, and applied a lucky finish to send us two up. Before half time it was three, when a poor wall and poor goalkeeping allowed Henry to score an easy goal direct from a free kick.

The second half was non eventful, with the horror tackle on Diaby the only incident, which should have been punished by a red card.

Jens Lehmann (7) Made two excellent saves to ensure we kept a clean sheet.

Gael Clichy (6) A solid display.

Sol Campbell (3) He was shocking from start to finish.

Kolo Toure (7) Carried the centre of defence.

Emmanuel Eboue (6) Got forward well.

Cesc Fabregas (6) Could have little impact from a wide position.

Abou Diaby (6) Had a good game marred by a bad injury.

Alexandre Song (5) Let's face it – he's useless!

Robert Pires (6) Started well but faded.

Thierry Henry (7) Deserved the standing ovation.

Emmanuel Adebayour (6) Good positioning but poor execution.

Subs:

Robin Van Persie (6) Missed a sitter, but troubled their defence.

Ashley Cole (7) Looked in fine shape.

Dennis Bergkamp (6) A few nice touches.
