The player has made a statement this morning which replaces yesterday's tale of fiction on arsenal.com:
"Contrary to the article in Sunday's News of the World I have not actually signed a new contract with Arsenal Football Club yet.
"However, negotiations are going well, improving all the time and I am very hopeful things will be sorted out by the start of the season.
"I would like to make it clear that I did not do an interview with the News of the World and I will make any announcement regarding my future through Arsenal Football Club.”
Personaly I believe that we're owed an explanation from the club as to why there was a misunderstanding - a lot of fans live or die by what they read in the papers or on the internet, and the club's website should be a bastion of truth rather than yet another work of fantasy in the vein of Planetfootball or Teamtalk.
