Wenger: 'We were in too much of a hurry'

Given our fixtures over the next few days you can understand why, especially as we have now lost Reyes and Ljungberg for a while.

He said after the game:

"We had chances in the first half and we had all the domination in the second half. They scored a good goal but then tried to defend and you can't blame them for that. We were in too much of a hurry.

"You can sometimes miss 10 chances and not score and only have one in the second half and score.

Explaining his reasoning behind resting Henry he said:

"Henry played for France in midweek and came back very tired. Four games in seven days - they are only human beings these guys.

"We were a bit unlucky to lose. Manchester United defended very well but some of the tackles were on the limit."

"They gave absolutely everything. I think we were very unfortunate to lose that game. The only good thing today is that we did not play extra time. If we had to choose one competition to go out of, it would be this one."

"They scored a good goal but after that they just played in their half and tried to defend the lead, which is understandable. We were too much in a hurry, lacked a bit of vision around the box but it was also the quality of their defending which stopped us scoring."
